Non-Select
I got the bad news this morning. I was sitting in my Computer Organization class and felt my phone ring, saw it was my recruiter and practically ran out of the classroom, hah. Unfortunately it was for bad news, I am non-select for January IW boards. The current plan is to get me some interviews with some higher ranking officers to get a few more competitive letters of recommendations. Then my package will be resubmitted for consideration for hopefully February boards, or latest March boards.
In other working news, I'm getting a number of phone calls to set up interviews with a variety of companies for Spring and Summer CoOp. Busy busy busy...
Winter Quarter
Winter quarter is probably my least favorite of all the quarters when it comes to the school year. Those that know me well, know that I am always cold and really just plain dislike cold weather. I will say, however, that the classes this quarter are looking to be pretty fun so far. I am taking: Computer Organization, Network Programming, Wireless and Mobile Networking, Marksmanship, Men's Choir, and Topics in Literature. Every single one of the classes I have enjoyed (at least for the first week).
I'm trying to wait as patiently as I can for news from the selection board for BDCP. I am anxious though.
Mostly things are good. The days are moving a little slowly, but its ok. I'm sure once the quarter really gets underway, it will fly.
Still looking for a part-time job for winter quarter. If you know anyone that wants to just give me lots of money.... send them my way.
Later!
Another quarter done…
Another quarter has come and gone. After throwing together my degree completion plan for the Navy, I realize that I really don't have all too long left. Sure it is 2.5 years, but looking at the classes that are ahead of me, it should be a good time. While working with a few of my advisors I have found some classes that really perk my interest, like network security, artificial intelligence, data encryption, and all that geeky fun stuff.
My final grades are officially posted, and I am very pleased:
| Technical Writing: | A- |
| Financial Accounting: | B |
| Men's Chorus: | A |
| Assembler: | A |
| Discrete Mathematics: | A |
This means I have a quarter GPA of 3.6, DEAN'S LIST!It's ashame I'm not already in the BDCP, if I get Dean's list for 2 or 3 (can't remember exactly) quarters in a row, I get a increase in the payscale. That would be nice. I am however resubmitting my transcript to my processor. The increased cum. gpa in addition to grades that are all nice and pretty should help my application.
So now that the quarter is over, I am working full time at Kroger until Friday, December 21st. After that I will be leaving Kroger to seek other opportunities. I ran into one of my favorite HR ladies who wanted to make sure she got my personal email address so we could stay in contact after I leave. That is one extremely positive thing about Kroger as a company: The people (Almost all the people) really are great! (one of the core values)
So next quarter I am hoping to get a job on campus as some form of IT guy. I'm not really sure yet, but I know there are opportunities. Then come Spring quarter I will start co-oping again, where you might ask? I have no idea yet.
Classes for Winter quarter (starting January 7, 2008) are as follows:
Topics in Literature (topic: monsters in fiction)
Marksmanship and Leadership (because seriously, how much fun will that be!)
UC Men's Chorus
Network System's Programming
Wireless and Mobile Networking
Introduction to Computer Organization (which I have heard is a beast)
Sounds like a hefty but fun quarter to me. It is a total of 15 credit hours.
It is rainy and nasty in Cincinnati, hope it is better where you are!
The results are in!
Thanks to everyone who helped me out with testing their reaction time. Take a look at the results
Total trials: 867
male trials: 469
female trials: 398
male median: 312
female median: 365.5
After data analysis, I have found that if using the median, there is no statistical significant difference between males and female reaction times. If using the mean, the opposite is true, there is a statistical significant difference between male and female reaction times.

Test your reaction time!
Hey everyone, school has been kinda hectic lately. My latest project for my technical writing class is to conduct an experiment of some sort. I decided to see who has a better reaction time, guys or gals. What do you think?
I have built a web application located at http://www.pawlak.ws/reaction that I would love for you to try out.
It is very easy, select your gender, click the button and wait for the screen to turn red. When it does, click the button again! Very simple.
Tell everyone! The more data gathered the better!
Thanks!
