Why in the name of Hell is my money going for someone else to unload their POS. I keep my vehicles mantained and in excellent condition. Once again because I am a person who ‘takes care of my bussiness’ I am targeted by the government to pay for someone else. I am pretty damn sick of this!!!

Joseph -

I think it is fantastic that you take care of your cars and (I assume) already have cars that have better than average gas mileage. I too am not eligible for this program as my car is a 1995 Honda Civic with 265,000 miles on it and gets 40 mpg.

What I don’t agree with is your negative opinion on being “targeted by the government to pay for someone else”. Yes both your and my tax dollars are going into a program that we are not directly eligible for. But this is a stimulus plan. If the auto industry improves (as it appears to be doing) there are countless other industries that improve with it. We pay taxes to be part of a community that takes care of it’s people. I do not enjoy my tax dollars being spent in ways that I see no progress, but if my tax dollars are being spent on something that I can see immediate beneficial results for our country as a whole, well those are dollars well spent.

Also, just as a side note, cash for clunkers is not necessarily for people to “unload their POS [cars]” but for people to upgrade to more fuel efficient vehicles. The measurement is [NEW CAR MPG] – [OLD CAR MPG]. If the result is > 4 but 10, you get $4,500. The plan even states that the car must be in drivable condition. Nowhere does it state that the quality of the car must be in “POS” (sub-optimal) condition.

I appreciate the comment,
Jason
